I sent all League Contacts an email entitled "Tour Party looking for a fixture" - stating: We are Phoenix Cricket Club and are touring the Hastings area next week. Currently we don’t have a game on Saturday 19th July and we have contacted several clubs without success. I know Saturday is a busy league day but could you please do me a favour or two:1. Can you pls email all the teams in the ESCL and informing them if they have a cancellation then to give me a call on 07778 784 437. We can play last minute. 2. Do you know any teams that could be free? I have searched your fixtures on the site and all the teams which have said 'free week' are now booked up. Your help here is much appreciated.

The following letter regarding delayed starts (with an attachment) was sent to League Contacts at approximately 04.44 on Saturday 14th May 2008

Dear League Contact

Following the Special General Meeting, I have attached a revised document that provides guidance on what to do in the event of delayed starts to games, and interruptions to play once the game has started. This amended version of the document first sent on 25th April 2008, should be used from 5th July 2008.

I would be grateful if you could ensure that all those in your club who need to know about this are given a copy as soon as possible.

Dear League Contact

(non-attendance will attract a penalty of £30 to the club)

Dear League Contact,

In view of the increasing concern being expressed about the late finishing of so many games so far this season, and the implications for player safety in poor light the committee have called this S.G.M.

If agreement cannot be so reached the status quo holds."
4. That paragraph 5.0 of Appendix A remains unaltered.

I sent the following to League Contacts at approximately 7.30 a.m. on Sunday 25th May 2008

Dear League Contact

Please ensure that all your club captains (and deputies) know the following, and ensure that the provisions are scrupulously observed:

The League Appendix A states:
1.0 All games shall be played in accordance with the Laws of Cricket save where the same are inconsistent with the provisions hereof.

The Laws of Cricket state:
LAW 1 THE PLAYERS

2. Nomination of players
Each captain shall nominate his players in writing to one of the umpires before the toss. No player may be changed after the nomination without the consent of the opposing captain.

3. Captain
If at any time the captain is not available, a deputy shall act for him.
(a) If a captain is not available during the period in which the toss is to take place, then the deputy must be responsible for the nomination of the players, if this has not already been done, and for the toss. See 2 above and Law 12.4 (The toss).

LAW 12 INNINGS

4. The toss
The captains shall toss for the choice of innings on the field of play not earlier than 30 minutes, nor later than 15 minutes, before the scheduled or any rescheduled time for the match to start. Note, however, the provisions of Law 1.3 (Captain).

Please note that any failure to observe the provisions above is a breach of the League's requirements, and if reported formally, will lead to disciplinary action.
